Barnsley Minor League Gala
February 13th, Knottingley Sports Centre
The
first round of the Barnsley Minor League saw us take our team to the Knottingley
Sports Centre and we were to be competing against Knottingley, Chapeltown,
Sheffield and CADS. We proved to be a strong
team after seeing us
taking part in the relays we achieved some great finishes, notably the 12 year
old boys Nathan East, Ryan Johnson, Sven Schygiol and Nahum
Klos earning 1st places in both the medley and free. The 12 year
old girls were not to be outdone though and Amy Tarpy, Anya Snow, Francesca
Maw and Yasmin Callaghan were to finish 1st in the
medley and 3rd in the free. The girls 10 and under team were also
showing their strength as a team which consisted of Lauren Gwynne, Amy
Baker, India Cowell and Lauren Jacklin achieving 2nd and 3rd
places. This position was also mirrored in the girls 15 and over team of
Alicia Snow, Becci Baker, Emma Sanderson and Rhiannon Haber.
After the exciting relays it was now time for some individual swims and here we
saw a clean sweep of 1st places for Amy Baker in both the back
and fly events. Ben Cantrill also swam a great race in the 50 breast
earning a 1st place and a massive 3.72 P.B since club champs.
Nathan East then swam the 50 back, his number one and brought home maximum
points and yet another P.B for him. Brother William East looks to be
following in his brother’s footsteps also taking part in the back and 3rd
place
for him after a great swim. In the freestyle individuals Adam Vaughan
knocked a second off his previous time and achieved a new time of 33.39. Tom
Spencer swam in the 15&O and a brilliant time of 26.62 gave him a well
deserved 1st place. Francesca, Nahum,
Travis,
Rhiannon, Lauren Gwynne and Lauren Callaghan were also
Stuart’s choice for the free event. Finley Fox swam to a new P.B in
the 50 fly with a time of 37.31 which saw an improvement of 1.23 seconds in two
weeks!! Shannon Johnson and brother Travis also swam the
fly and maybe sibling rivalry took place with new P.B’s for both. Emma
Sanderson and Allan Snowden achieving 3rd and 2nd
place finishes also in the fly. We were then back to the breaststroke with
Steve Vaughan showing how its done with an incredible 35.27 and 2nd
place. Ellie Taylor had an amazing swim in the 50 breast knocking 4.59
seconds off her previous time. Alicia Snow returned to the club and took
part in the 50 back and shows she still has what it takes finishing in 2nd
position with 35.61, 2nd position also mirrored by Scott Strong
with more than a second P.B and a time of 34.05. Ryan Johnson and
Lauren Jacklin took part in the 50 breast with a first place finish for Ryan
and 3rd for Lauren with both swimmers achieving new P.B’s. Finally
in the individuals Amy Tarpy swam to a great P.B in the 50 back and a 3rd
for her.
The final event of the day was the cannon and with all to play for we went out strong with Lauren Gwynne and Travis, the next leg fell to Yasmin and Sven with the penultimate leg in the capable hands of Scott Zimmerman and Shannon Johnson who handed over to Emma Sanderson and finally bringing us home in 3rd position, Trevor Zimmerman.
