Lincolnshire Senior League Round 2
Scartho Road - Grimsby

Round 2 of the Lincolnshire League took place on the 8th May at Grimsby. CASA had 2 teams taking part of which CASA Green was made up entirely of Scunthorpe swimmers and CASA White being the B team for Cleethorpes. Other competing clubs were Lincoln Vulcans A and B teams, City of Lincoln Pentaqua B team and Grantham.
The first event saw Aisley Leeman return back to competition after a years break. In the open 100m freestyle he raced to victory in a time of 56.45, winning by over a second. This was mirrored by Jasmin Kirk in the girl’s event gaining six more valuable points.
The
next four events were all relays. The boys 10 year free relay swam a good race
against Vulcans to come in 2nd and the girls managed a good 3rd
place. The boy’s 14/u medley relay team had a great battle against CASA White
pushing them into 3rd
place, a great result as 11 year old Scott Zimmerman was swimming up an
age group in this event to join Adam Vaughan, Josh Jones and Kieran
Skinner. The girl’s 14U team also had 11 year old Ellie Chafer
swimming in their relay and came in a commendable 5th.
Individual
events followed, with Jack Cowling and Ellie Chafer achieving pb’s
in the 50 backstroke, coming in 2nd and 3rd. Steve
Vaughan and Lauren York both brought in more points for CASA Green,
finishing 2nd and 1st respectively. The 10 years 50 fly
followed with Travis Johnson in 2nd place and Amy Baker
who has been working hard on her fly technique winning the event by an
incredible 8 seconds. Josh Jones and Becci Foster were our
representatives in the 14/under 100 metre freestyle and both swimmers had good
pb’s which was particularly impressive for Becci as she had been competing at
Ponds Forge, Sheffield earlier in the day and returned back especially to take
part in the gala. Scott Zimmerman and Yasmin Callaghan were the
12 year individual breaststroke swimmers and finished 3rd and 5th.
More
relays followed with the men’s open freestyle team of Scott Strong, Alan
Snowden, Steve Vaughan and Aisley Leeman having a good battle against
the Vulcan team. The girls open relay team followed with Emma Sanderson,
Rhiannon Haber, Lauren York and Jasmin Kirk having a comfortable
win. The boys 10 years relay team saw William East, Jonathan Manchester,
Travis Johnson and newcomer Ryan Connor come in third position and
the girls team of Amy Baker, Eve Mcgrory. Lauren Gwynne and India
Cowell all pushing CASA White into 2nd place midway through the
gala .
Josh Jones and Lauren Callaghan followed with the 100 backstroke, with Lauren swimming a good pb and Josh taking maximum points for his swim. Alan Snowden managed a 3rd place for his 100 fly and Lauren York took 1st place and a new pb for her swim in the same event. Kieran Skinner won the 14/under 100 breaststroke by a massive 10 seconds and Finley Fox also took maximum points in the 12/under 50 fly and a new pb much to his delight. Eve Mcgrory took second place in the 50 metre breaststroke and a new pb for her. Kieran Skinner then took part in his favourite event, 100 fly and once again took maximum points for the club with a 5 second win over the nearest Vulcan swimmer. Becci Foster took 3 seconds off her time for the same event to get 3rd place and 3 more points. Sven Schygiol narrowly missed out on 1st place in the 50 freestyle coming in on a great time of 32.91 seconds.
The
men’s medley relay proved the closest of the evening with a nail biting race
from the first leg and a great swim on the final leg. Scott Strong had a
good start, but at the final takeover CASA green were 3 seconds behind the
Vulcan team. We were not to be defeated though and Aisley dived in and flew
down the pool chasing his opponent, the gap was just too much though and
Vulcans were awarded 1st place by just 0.1 of a second. However the
girls replied with an exciting race against Grantham leaving Rhiannon Haber
swimming the last 50 metres to bring the team home to a victory.
More first places were to go to Travis Johnson and Amy Baker in their 50 metre backstroke and also to the boys 12/under medley relay team. The final event of the evening saw our 12/under girl medley team finish in 4th place.
Coach Dave Leeman was extremely pleased with all the swimmers and the 2nd place finish secures CASA Green a place in the final for the 3rd round.
