Doncaster Dartes Minster Meet February/March 2010
April 18th 2010

Beverley Sports Complex.
Scunthorpe Anchor
Coach Dave Leeman took a
select group of his swimmers to the popular Minster Meet hosted by local rival
club Doncaster Dartes. This was held in Beverley on 18th April. As
this is a B/C grade meet with cut off times, it allows swimmers to compete for
both awards and speeding tickets in all 4 strokes and the 100 metre Individual
Medley. There were swimmers from 33 clubs in total and as there was also a top
club award every point counted.
9 year old Travis Johnson was to prove himself the boy racer of the meet, securing 5 out of 5 speeding tickets and 5 brilliant pb’s much to his coaches delight. Every swimmer achieved good personal best times. Special mentions must go to Finley Fox and Scott Strong who finished as top boys in their respective age groups. Finley achieved his position with two 1st places, one 3rd place and two speeding tickets. Scott achieved his position with one 1st place, two 2nd places and two 4th places. A massive achievement to both boys against some strong competition.
Adam Vaughan narrowly
missed out of a 3rd place in the 50 butterfly event but soon made up
for the disappointment by gaining a 1st place in the breaststroke
event and 3rd in the backstroke. Jonathan
Manchester’s hard work in
training paid off with a first in the individual medley and 3rd in
the back. Ryan Johnson also had a fantastic day with a 1st, 3rd
and a speeding ticket all with huge P.B’s. Rhiannon Haber was also on the
receiving end of awards for her performances in the back, free and I.M finishing
1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. India Cowell
and Jack Christer both newcomers to open events had brilliant swims each earning
two speeding tickets. Lauren Callaghan had a clean sweep of P.B’s which gave
her four out of five speeding tickets narrowly missing out of a 3rd
place finish in her fifth event, for sister Yasmin two further speeding tickets
and a 2nd place finish. Young swimmer Amy Baker has been working
hard in training and this resulted in two speding tickets for her.
Regular announcements of points showed how close the points tally was between the clubs and the last event of the day saw valuable points from Francis Moir who finished 1st in the 50 breaststroke. A 4th place for Shannon Johnson in the same event added to the points total and helped secure our position as top club overall.
