Scunthorpe Anchor took seven swimmers to the ASA North East Regional District Championships over two weekends in June at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.  The first weekend saw three of our swimmers taking part in finals after brilliant perfomances in the heats and Jack Newton claiming a gold medal for his swim in the 1500 metre freestyle event.  Caitlin Bower took part in the 100 metre breaststroke final and both Josh Jones and Holly Williams finalled in the 200 metre fly after knocking off 4 seconds and 2 seconds respectively in their heats.

The following weekend saw a return to Ponds Forge and some more great performances.  The first event of the weekend saw Jack Newton claim another medal in the long distance freestyle event, this time the 800 free and a bronze medal for his hard work.  Bryony Bower then put in maximum effort in the 200 back giving her a massive five second P.B in a new time of 2.50.58.  Sister Caitlin was also on form with a well deserved P.B in her 200 breaststroke event and a place in the 13 year old girls final, a massive achievement in itself but even more so for the fact that she had turned 13 only two weeks before the event.  Kieran Skinner also swam good races in the 14 year old boys 200 breast and 100 fly which saw him competing alongside fellow team mate Josh JonesJosh Jones also went on to swim the 200 Individual Medley and 200 metre back earning himself two further finals in which he finished 9th in both, with a massive eight second P.B in the back event.  Jack Newton was also to compete in five further events over the weekend with the 100 fly earning him a 7th place finish in the final and a two second P.B.  Caitlin was then joined by Scunthorpe team mate Becci Foster to take part in the 400 Medley relay team in which both girls put in strong performances alongside Savannah Cheung and Molly Unwin from Cleethorpes.

The two weekends showed how far our swimmers have come and that their continued efforts in training are consistently reaping rewards for them.  Head Coach Dave Leeman was pleased with the group of swimmers results and looks forward to further swimmers qualifying to take part in this event in 2011.
