Rotherham Metro Short Course meet - 17th-18th July 2010
Ponds Forge - Sheffield

12 swimmers from
Scunthorpe took part in the Rotherham Metro A/B grade Open Meet at Ponds Forge,
Sheffield, a meet with cut off time for both A and B grade competitors. Our
swimmers were in fine form for their final meet of the season bringing
home a total of 22 medals
and a number of speeding tickets.
Becci
Foster continued her recent good form with six B graded medals, two gold,
two silver and two bronze and yet more P.B’s for her, notably the 200 fly which
gave her a ten second improvement. Finley Fox was amongst the top
performers claiming a total of eleven P.B’s from thirteen events giving him a
haul of two gold medals, five silvers and one bronze all at A grade times. Becci
and Finley were also positioned in the top ten overall with Becci finishing 4th
and Finley 6th, a massive achievement.
Scott Strong
continued his great form with huge P.B’s in all but one event and a gold and
bronze medal (B grade) been his just reward. The girls were also showing that
their hardwork during the season was now reaping the rewards for them with
massive P.B’s for
Lauren
Callaghan knocking a massive 12 and 14 seconds off her 200 back and
freestyle respectively. Eleanor Chafer earned herself a bronze (B grade)
in the 200 Individual Medley after achieving a five second P.B.
Holly Williams
who trains consistently hard at every session was looking for P.B’s and was not
to be disappointed after coming away with nine massive P.B’s and A grade gold
medals for the 200 fly and 200 back after knocking 20 seconds from her previous
times.
Sven Schygiol was another swimmer who added to the medal haul with B grade gold and bronze in the 50 fly and 50 back. Michael Trueman should be proud of his efforts after achieving five P.B’s from seven events and a massive ten seconds off his 200 freestyle event. Charles and Edward Kenny were also cutting their previous best times which for Charles gave him a B grade 2nd with a massive 21 second P.B. After all the individual successes we finished 2nd placed overall only 14 points behind the Borough of Kirklees.
All swimmers are now looking forward to a well deserved rest in the form of reduced training sessions during the month of August and then the schedule resumes in September to prepare the swimmers for some tough up coming events.
