 Events

April has been a relatively quiet month for all our swimmers and has seen only two open events, the Derventio Excel Open Meet and the Minster Meet, hosted by Doncaster Dartes.

Josh Jones took part in the Derventio Meet over the weekend  11th/12th April and had fantastic success by achieving a national qualifying time in the 200 I.M,  3 silver medals, 1 bronze and 3 P.B’s.  He also finished 3rd overall in the Bagcat rankings.  Well done Josh on your massive achievement.

The Minster Meet took place on 19th April at Beverley and was attended by 19 of our swimmers.   The meet consists of 50 metres in each stroke and 100 I.M.  We had 41 P.B’s and as a club finished 3rd overall with a number of swimmers in the Top Rankings.  Overall we had six 1st places, five 2nd places and eight 3rd places.  Besides this a  massive 17 speeding tickets were also achieved by the following swimmers, Becki Baker, Yasmin Callaghan,  Harrison Caton,  Jack Cowling, Nathan East, Becki Foster, Nahum Kloss, Francesca Maw, Sven Schygiol and Adam Vaughan.

From the club members who attended the open meet the following swimmers finished in the top three places:  Becki Baker (2nd, 3rd), Lauren Callaghan (1st), Yasmin Callaghan (1st),  Nathan East (2nd), Becki Foster (3rd),  Rhiannon Haber (3rd, 3rd, 3rd), Ryan Johnson (1st), Nahum Kloss (1st, 3rd), Hannah Mayall (2nd, 3rd), Frances Moir (1st), Emma Sanderson (2nd, 2nd), Sven Schygiol (2nd), Michael Trueman (1st, 3rd).

Well done to all swimmers who took part.  If anybody who attended the event would like to submit a report to publish on the website please email it to me- z.newton@ntlworld.com

Anya Snow received a huge accolade this month which saw her presented with the “Young Girls Sports Achiever of the Year” award on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council.  Anya was nominated by her school who are very interested in her keen interest in swimming and she was asked to attend an awards ceremony at Ancholme Leisure Centre.  Her mum Claire said it was a lovely evening and culminated in Anya been presented with her award by Nigel Adkins, Scunthorpe United’s manager.  A report was printed in the Evening Telegraph and for anyone who missed it you can find it on the website under Articles/Reports.  Well done Anya.

General Information

The lucky winner of the 100 club which was drawn on the 20th April was Kevin Calpin

Dave has requested that a new system for club records is set up and in future short course and long course records will be separate.  The long course records are currently been built so with effect from the 1st April any new long course times will become club records to enable the system to be set up.  Unfortunately we are unable to distinguish which of the current club records were infact converted times hence the need to do this.

The website problems are now completely rectified and if anybody still requires a password please e-mail Stuart who will be happy to send you one.

The debate about what swimmers should be wearing to compete has been thrashed out by FINA in Dubai and the new rules are now nicknamed “The Dubai Charter”.  Please take time to read this using the following link The Dubai Charter (April 2009) to ensure that you are up to date with the rules.

Coming Up

May is set to be a very busy month with events over three of the weekends.  The bank holiday weekend 2nd/3rd May sees the Youth/Senior Championships at Sunderland and the Radford Swimming Club Open Meet at Ponds Forge.  The next weekend 9th May is the second round of the Senior League held at Lincoln, followed by the next round of the Junior League at Grimsby on the 16th May.

Good luck to all swimmers taking part in these events.
