January Newsletter

Happy Birthday to the following swimmer who celebrates her birthday in February

 Amy Baker

Events

January saw us off to a snowy start and the unfortunate cancellation of the James Lormor gala due to the wintry conditions.  All efforts will be made to reschedule the event if the hectic schedule allows this, as you will see from the forthcoming events all weekends in February are already booked up !  The snow also lead to reduced numbers attending the Presentation disco held on the 8th January but the event went ahead and a good time was had by all.  Pictures are available under the photo link and an article on the presentation evening is available following articles/reports from the Newsletter link.

The weekend of January 16th/17th saw swimmers travelling to two different meets.  Jasmine, Josh and Lauren travelled to Liverpool to take part in a Level One Meet.  The other group of swimmers travelled to Ponds Forge, Sheffield to take part in the annual Rotherham MetroA/B grade Open Meet, a very popular meet targeted by lots of clubs in the area.  With only 26 swimmers we achieved over 100 P.B’s, 31 medals and a couple of speeding tickets.

From the swimmers who competed at the events here are the ones that finished in the top 3 places Bryony Bower (3rd 100 back), Caitlin Bower (3rd 200 breast, 2nd 200 fly), Melanie Calder (3rd 100 fly, 1st 100 back, 3rd 50 breast, 3rd 200 fly), Lauren Callaghan (1st 50 back, 3rd 100 back), Yasmin Callaghan (2nd 100 breast), Jack Cowling (1st 50 back), Nathan East (3rd 50 fly, 3rd 200 back, ST 50 back), Megan Fletcher (1st 50 back, 1st 100 back, 3rd 100 free, 2nd 50 fly), Becci Foster (3rd 200 free, 3rd 50 back), Finley Fox (1st 100 fly), Jack Newton (1st 100 fly, 3rd 50 breast, 2nd 200 free, 2nd 200 fly), Molly Newton (2nd 200 free), Kieran Skinner (2nd 50 breast, 1st 100 fly, 3rd 50 free, 1st 200 fly, 3rd 100 free, ST 50 fly), Holly Williams (2nd 200 fly,).  We were to finish in fourth position as a club and two swimmers from CADS, swimming under the CASA logo won top boy and girl.  Well done to Tom Wells and Natalie Sharman.

I intend to submit a full report to the Telegraph and will be contacting a photographer shortly to arrange a poolside shot.  Please keep checking the Notices/Updates for further information.

The first round of the Lincolnshire Senior League took place on 30th January at Yarborough pool, Lincoln.  For this particular competition we are competing under CASA green and the team is made up solely of Scunthorpe swimmers.   We were to finish in 3rd position overall to Lincoln Vulcans A and Louth.  It was a good evening with Lauren York achieving a new club record in the 100 fly.  Swimmers also achieved 6 first places and numerous 2nd’s.  A separate report will be available under Articles/Reports and will also be forwarded to the Telegraph.

Back in April 2009 the newsletter detailed information regarding the new FINA rules introduced January 2010 for swimwear.  Please take time to read the information as it may well affect what you are wearing for competitions.  A list is available of approved suits and the main changes are that men can basically only wear above knee length jammers and no suits and that girls can no longer wear full length leg suits they must be above the knee.  The material is also an important factor and therefore please check before placing any orders.

The draft programme for the forthcoming Yorkshire county championships is now available to view on the events page.  Please check your entries and report any problems to Dave.
